Vice City, in the fictional state of Leonida, according to Rockstar.

How big is the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar staff have compared it to earlier games. Roundups cite roughly twice the size of GTA V's map and three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2. Treat the numbers as press-quoted.

GTA 6 Map: Leonida's Regions, Size and the Leaks

Where the game takes place

Rockstar’s page says the game is set in Vice City, USA, in the fictional state of Leonida (Rockstar). Official It is Rockstar’s fictional take on Florida-style locations, but the company calls it Leonida, so that is the name we use.

The six regions Rockstar has named

Roundup articles list six named regions that come from Rockstar’s own material, such as trailers and the game page (Timesaver):

Vice City
Leonida Keys
Grassrivers
Port Gellhorn
Ambrosia
Mount Kalaga National Park

Official We read this through a roundup rather than a single Rockstar document, so we describe it as named by Rockstar, per that roundup.

Smaller places also come up in the same coverage, such as Lake Leonida, Watson Bay, Gambit Bay and Washington Beach, though their exact positions are not settled. Rumor / unconfirmed

How big is the map?

The same roundup cites two comparisons attributed to Rockstar staff. In one, the overall map is three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2’s playable area, a claim attributed to The New York Times. In the other, art director Aaron Garbut told Game Informer it is roughly twice the size of GTA V’s map (Timesaver). Official

These are loose comparisons from interviews, not measurements, and the two use different baselines. We cannot give you square miles.

The August 2026 leak

In August 2026 an alleged development map circulated online along with unauthorized gameplay footage. Reports describe a wider Leonida map divided into counties, but sources disagree on the details (GTABase). Rumor / unconfirmed Rockstar has not confirmed the alleged map.

Leaked names that appear in coverage include Catalan Bay, Catalan Key, Dalton Island, Gloriana Key and Tequesta Retreat. Rumor / unconfirmed We list them to help you recognize what you may read elsewhere, not because we vouch for them. Some of the original leaks reportedly appeared on 4chan, which is a reason for extra caution.

Other rumors

A third city. Some fans expect another major city, and Port Gellhorn is one guess. Rumor / unconfirmed
A South America map (“Project Americas”). The roundup notes this carries heavy caveats. Rumor / unconfirmed

Fan-made maps

Interactive maps from fan sites are everywhere. Treat them as provisional. They mix official names, leaked names and guesses on one picture, usually without marking which is which. The only settled part is the official region list above.

What we are not showing

We do not publish map images. Rockstar’s artwork and trailer frames are not ours to use, and the leaked map is both unconfirmed and unauthorized. Our graphics are original illustrations only.

What to expect

A complete official map will likely be seen only when the game is out. If Rockstar releases an official map earlier, we will link it here and re-label the leak section as history.

The characters and story setup are in GTA 6 story and characters. The online question is in GTA 6 Online.
