Asked about online play, Rockstar has answered with a single line: “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.” The wording appears in its pre-order materials and in a short reply attributed to the company (GTABoom; Dexerto). Rockstar has not announced an online mode, a name for one, or a date.

How to read “single-player experience”

Some outlets read it as a hint that online will come separately. Others read it as plain wording about what ships on November 19, 2026. Both are interpretations. The statement is true on its own terms and says nothing about the future. We read it as: no online mode is announced for launch, and that is all.

What about the current GTA Online?

Take-Two has said GTA Online will continue to be supported after GTA 6 launches (IBTimes). Official So the existing online game is not being switched off because of the new release. We found no date or plan for its eventual end.

The rumors

Three claims keep circulating. None has been confirmed by Rockstar.

What this means if you are buying

If you want a single-player story, the announced game matches that.
If you are buying for multiplayer, nothing announced supports that yet. Wait for an announcement before paying extra for editions on that hope.
