The platforms
Take-Two’s press release says GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (Take-Two). Official PlayStation’s page says it will only be playable on PS5 consoles and not on PS4 (PlayStation). Official

Official (PlayStation; PlayStation Store; Xbox Store; Rockstar)
What none of them lists is a resolution, a frame rate, or what “PS5 Pro Enhanced” changes. See GTA 6 60 FPS and PS5 Pro. Xbox’s own console news post names GTA VI among the big releases and says the Xbox Series S “remains the lowest-cost way for console players” to play them (Xbox Wire). Official
Console prices from the manufacturers
Prices change, so check the store before you buy. These are the figures the companies published.
PlayStation (US), recommended retail prices effective April 2, 2026 (PlayStation Blog): Official
| Console | Price |
|---|---|
| PS5 | $649.99 |
| PS5 Digital Edition | $599.99 |
| PS5 Pro | $899.99 |
Xbox (US). Xbox’s June 25, 2026 post says prices rose by US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models effective August 1, 2026, and that the 2 TB model was being retired (Xbox Wire). Official The post does not state the resulting prices. When we looked, the Microsoft Store listed the Xbox Series S 512 GB at $499.99 and the Xbox Series X at $799.99 (Microsoft Store), while other Xbox pages showed different models and prices such as $599.99 and $749.99. Official Those listings do not agree with each other, so we cannot give you one Xbox price. Open the page for the exact model you want. Rumor / unconfirmed
What this means for the decision
- If you already own a PS5 or Series X|S, you can play it. That is the whole answer for most people.
- Do not buy hardware for a rumored 60 FPS mode or a Pro upgrade. Nothing official supports either.
- Price: Xbox calls the Series S the lowest-cost way in (Xbox Wire). Official We have no performance data for the Series S, so that is a price statement only.
- PS5 Digital Edition: it has no disc drive. Boxed GTA 6 copies contain a code and no disc (Rockstar Support), so a disc drive is not needed for this game. Official That conclusion is ours.
- Still on PS4 or Xbox One? GTA 6 is not listed for those consoles, but GTA V is, with a free upgrade to the current generation. See the GTA V console upgrade guide.
- Used or refurbished: Xbox says certified refurbished consoles are available at Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off (Xbox Wire). Official
Controllers and accessories
PlayStation sells two GTA VI limited-edition DualSense controllers. See the DualSense guide. Storage is also worth a thought: no official download size is published. See download size.
What is not known
- Frame rates, resolution and ray tracing on any console. Rumor / unconfirmed
